    Refrigerator side warm

    Model Number: 25356512400
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 6-10 years

My refrigerator will not cool below 40F. My freezer works fine and I get sufficient air flow through the diffuser when it is open. However, the diffuser does not seem to be open nearly enough. If I pull the diffuser slightly away from the refrigerator wall to allow freezer air to bypass the diffuser, I have trouble keeping the refrigerator above freezing.

I first replaced the defrost control module and then the refrigerator thermostat. Both times the diffuser opened when I plugged the refrigerator in. After closing the first time it does not appear to be reopening . I am not able to get it to open again by adjusting the temperature setting or by leaving the refrigerator door open. The next logical step appears to be replacing the diffuser, but I wanted to verify whether something else could be causing the problem. The evaporator coils are not iced over.

    Thanks for the help.

It sounds like your diagnosis is correct. The freezer control thermostat is what cycles the compressor and fan motors on/off. The refrigerator control thermostat is what controls the dampener opening and closing. So if you already replaced the refrigerator thermostat, then it sounds like the problem would have to be with the air damper. Let me know what you find.

This is the air damper for your model:
