Lightbulb Dishwasher fills up when its not being used

    Model Number: GU1200XTLQ3
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 6-10 years

The other day we noticed water was leaking into our basement. We realized it was coming from the dishwasher, when we opened the dishwasher up it was full of water even though we hadn't been using it. I hit the cancel button to drain the water out of it, but the next day I opened up the dishwasher and it was full of water again.

We have the water shut off now, but how do we fix this?

It sounds like you have a slow leak coming from your water inlet valve. If you turn your water back on to the dishwasher and look at the inside of the dishwasher on the left hand side there is a small piece there where the water enters the dishwasher, there should not be any water dripping from this when the dishwasher is off. If there is water entering the dishwasher from there when the dishwasher is off then you need to replace the water inlet valve.

To do this you need to shut off the power & water to the dishwasher.

Remove the bottom kick plate (2 screws)

Disconnect the water inlet line to the dishwasher.

Remove the screw holding in the water inlet valve.

Disconnect the water outlet line and electrical connection.

Reconnect everything in the reverse order and check for any leaks.

This is the water valve for your dishwasher:

I had a similar problem with my washer. It would just fill on its own. I thought the thing was possessed!
