Water issue when selecting ICE from the dispenser

    Model Number: PFSS6PKXGSS
    Brand: GE
    Age: 1-5 years

When either cubes or crushed Ice is selected the trap door opens and water from melted ice comes down first. This did not happen when the refrigerator was new. When I remove the ice unit I normally see some ice above the shield in front of the unit over the ice container. The gasket connection between the door and the ice unit seems okay and is not flattened. After I clean the ice off the shield it sometimes works for a short period of time without giving the melted ice as water first.

Is this a known issue and is there a known fix for it?

    Best regards,

    Gary

Have you checked the temperature in the ice maker compartment to make sure it is 10F or colder?
