Gas Range--Oven not heating--and has gassy smell

    Model Number: PGR5710BDC
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: 6-10 years

When I turn the oven on to bake, it won't start heating, and it gives off a gassy smell.
I can see an orange glow in the bottom. Is this a bad gas valve? Please let me know.

The oven igniter is the most common part to fail. The igniter can glow but still be defective as the oven gas valve doesn't have the correct voltage to operate. You can use a volt meter to check for the proper voltage to the gas valve. Put the leads of the meter on the terminals of the gas valve. Correct voltage is printed on the valve body. (Note: Most customers just replace the igniter without the voltage check.)
The oven igniter part # is 74007498.
    Have a nice day!
