I am defrosting my samsung fridge for the 10th time this year - the coils get frosted up near the top and impede the evaporator fan causing loud noises everytime the fan cycles on. I've replaced the defrost thermostat, and I know the defrost heater is working because I hear water dripping on it. Does anyone know what the soft black putty material is on the cooling coils - it is placed where the aluminum cooling coil meets the smaller copper tube that goes into the back of the fridge wall. The defrost thermostat is attached to the coil just below the putty, and the putty has sort of melted down and enveloped the defrost thermostat. Wondering what that stuff is. See pic at this link.
