LG dryer - drum light always on - control board dead (caused by electricity surge)

Sharing my appreciation in advance for your help.

My 4 year old LG dryer stopped working, after a lightning strike. I need help diagnosing which part to order.

Symptoms:
* drum light stays on, whether the door is open or closed.
* display board does not work, at all.
* pressing the buttons for 5 seconds does nothing
* manually rotating the drum does nothing
* there is no visible damage to the control board. The circuits do not look fried.
* the display board & 1 component on the control board does emit a slight burnt/electric smell

The display board is $200. The control board is $180.

Since I cannot see any damage, & these are costly, I request your advice on which part to order & how to further diagnose the problem.

On these dryers there usually is not a way to further narrow down which of the two board is bad (or both). You usually end up having to make an guess or replace them both.
