[FIXED] How to ensure diverter valve gears are aligned when reassembling waterwall?

    Model Number: DW80R9950US
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 1-5 years

When you separate the waterwall drive assembly to remove it from the tub, there is a white gear in the lower half that is keyed to the diverter motor shaft. This gear becomes loose and just falls out when you remove the diverter motor and turn the housing over to replace the waterwall drive motor. So when reassembling the housing the position of that gear relative to the diverter seems critical but there is no indication of where it should be or in fact any way to ensure that exactly the right tooth engages with the gear of the diverter. What is the correct procedure for reassembly?

Unfortunately, Samsung doesn't list documentation for the re-assembly process that we can find. I posted a copy of the removal instructions below. If you have any tips for re-assembly, please share and let us know.

I haven't yet figured out how to reassemble the parts correctly yet but one tip for repairing this part would be:

Never remove the top half of the assembly AND the diverter valve motor (the one on the side on the bottom half) at the same time! You will almost certainly lose the correct position of the gears even if you try to mark them with a sharpie.

After thinking about this some more, here is my tip for reassembling the parts correctly.

    1. Get the dishwasher into a mode where it should be running the upper spray arms. I chose about 5mins into the rinse cycle.
    2. Drain the water. I put in in diagnostic mode (press delay until you get to 17H and then hold High Temp) and ran cycle 1 until it was drained
    3. Remove the racks and upper arm supply pipe
    4. Inspect the outlet of the diverter and compare to the photo attached
    5. If it matches you're all good, else continue
    6. Working inside the tub
    7. Remove the waterwall track and arm (2 torx screws)
    8. Remove the remaining 4 torx screws of the waterwall assembly
    9. Lift up the front of the assembly. This unmeshes the internal gears and allows you to turn the diverter
    10. Turn the diverter until it matches the photo (you might be able to just use your finger but I inserted a blunt screwdriver until there was enough of an opening to get purchase with my finger)
    11. Reassemble
