Kenmore 90 Series Wont Spin after 2-3 cycles

    Model Number: 11077902791
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: More than 10 years

Moved into a house and used the gas dryer for two medium loads across the time of 2 days. Another day, 3rd time I tried to use it and while starting it, the drum tried to turn and did spin a bit, but then seemed to meet resistance and stop. Then just humming from the power button.

I took it apart and found the back panel was installed wrong, the rear rollers were not level. I put the back panel back on correctly, made sure the rollers and belt pulley could all spin freely, cleaned/reassembled and ran it a couple more times, working great. Went to check it just now and same thing, wont turn.

Any idea whats causing this pattern where it works great for a day or two then stops? seems like maybe the rollers or motor or something are getting to clumped up with crap, then cant start after resting. But on the other hand, it did this while very dirty, and still does it after its been cleaned out very well.

homespy.io according to this website, the dryer was built in 98. Haha.

My dryer is an emotional roller coaster, any advice appreciated, thanks much. If its not worth repairing, let me know

It sounds to me like the motor might be on its way out. Sometimes the bearing in the motor can go bad over time and the motor will overheat because it isn't rotating freely. If you disconect the belt and spin the motor shaft, it should spin about a revolution before stopping. If it seems like there is resistance and the motor doesn't spin freely, the motor is bad and will need to be replaced. When replacing the motor, sometimes the blower wheel will get stuck and not like to come off without damage to it.

This is the motor and blow wheel for your model dryer:

    Drive Motor - 279787 (PD00002347)

    Blower Wheel - WP697772 (PD00003053)

Also, we have a video you can use to determine the age of your dryer here:

Thanks much Ryan, really appreciate you helping identify what seems to be wrong and a way I can check. Its great to have a link to the motor as well.....thanks a lot.

The video confirmed it is from 98....I am already 100 bucks into this thing on a service call, you think its worth going in another ~125? I am a novice with this stuff but I enjoyed attempting to fix it. Even if it doesnt go well I figure I can get some money for the dryer and the motor. Would appreciate your opinion on whether its time to replace
