    Samsung Washer Stopped Working

    Model Number: WF42H5000AW
    Brand: Samsung
    Age: 6-10 years

My Samsung washer stopped in mid-cycle. Would not spin or drain. On another forum, I was directed to replace the pump. Did that and no go, now it will not start at all. One stored code AE6 (because I forgot to turn the taps back on after I changed the pump). When I turn it on, the display appears normal, but if I press any button or turn the selector it beeps once and does nothing else. Is this possible a control board problem?

Have you checked to see if power is being sent to the drain pump when it should be draining? If the main control board is not sending power to the drain pump, that could cause the washer to not drain.

No, I have not done that, but I will tomorrow. Would that fall in line with the system being completely locked up? No error codes. Cannot select any cycle or options?

Usually, the washer will have an error code relating to not draining. It is strange that you are not receiving any error codes.

Yes, I thought the same thing. Imma thinking no error code could be an indicator of a bad PCB, but not sure which one.

User interface – DC92-01622J - processes the cycle settings you choose.

User interface sensor – DC93-00376D processes the cycle settings chosen by the user.

Washer Electronic Control Board DC92-01621E - Manages the washer's functions such as filling, washing, draining, and spinning.

Inverter control board DC92-01531B helps control motor speed and direction.

The machine is stuck right now, and will not allow the user to select anything. The push buttons just respond with a single beep. The cycle dial does nothing when you turn it.

I found the tech manual on this machine and tried every test I could find. Pretty much it just doesn't respond to those either.

I agree that it sounds like you most likely have a bad control board. These types of problems can be almost impossible to troubleshoot as Samsung usually does not provide enough information to be able to narrow down which part is bad. You usually end up having to make an educated guess. Also, weigh the cost of replacing all of the control boards versus replacing the washer.

Agree wholeheartedly, Doc. I've always done my own appliance repairs. I ordered a used main board DC92-01621E and it was bad, the washer wouldn't even power up. So I'm back to the drawing board. Do I roll the dice on another used board, buy a new one ($175-226), or shitcan the project and buy a new washing machine. It's a conundrum.

Not really sure, I bought it new at HD about 7-8 years ago (I think). Anyway, it's fixed. Turned out to be the inverter board, which made no sense to me based on what I read about it. "Samsung Control Board (DC92-01531B) is a PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) that helps control motor speed and direction." But then I found another description tonight (after the fix) that states "The Control Board is also called the PCB (Power Control Board) Kit Assembly." Power board? Anyway, it's fixed.

I spoke too soon. No fixed. Now it will power on, I can select all cycles. But the drum will only turn about 1/4 turn and falls back to its original position. It does this in both directions. Doesn't spin or agitate, regardless of what cycle it is in.
