Wall electric oven overheating

The oven continues heating after reaching the target temperature set in the display board, ending with the error code F20 due to overheat.

When this occurs, the oven does beep when it reaches the target temperature, as it should do it, but the heating element continues on, though the display is not updated with the higher temperatures. After some time, the oven displays the error F20 due to overheating.

This problem occurs randomly which makes troubleshooting more problematic. Most of the time the oven works well until the issue reoccurs after several uses.

I took out the temperature sensor and found it good, using a multimeter confirmed a resistance of 1086 ohms at room temperature.

I'm trying to determine my next course of action. Would the control board be the culprit, or something else?

It sounds like one of the relays that sends power to the heating element on the control board is bad. That is the only thing that I know of that could cause these types of symptoms. Let me know what you find.

Thank you Doc Ryan. I'll try replacing the control board and will revert with an update.

A follow up question, does the control overlay always need to be replaced along with the control board, or can the existing one be retained?

The overlay can be re-used as long as it peels off in once piece. Often times because they have been stuck on there for so long they will start to come apart when you try to peel it off. You can try using a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive to help release it when peeling it off. I look forward to hearing how the repair goes for you.
