Thread: Dryer ONLY runs with heat turned off.

Dryer ONLY runs with heat turned off.

    Model Number: NS-FDRE67WH8A
    Brand: Other
    Age: 1-5 years

I bought an insignia dryer from Best Buy about a year and 7 months ago and last week I noticed that it didn’t seem to be heating properly as I had to dry clothes longer then now it doesn’t heat at all. It’ll turn on and run if I have it on NO HEAT but if I set it on HIGH MEDIUM LOW OR ULTRA LOW then it’ll turn off immediately after starting. I tried testing all the components that has to do with the heating system but they all seem fine.

You can access the service manual for this dryer here. Have you checked the dryer for any error codes?

Thank you for that link ! And yeah I did but I’m not sure what I’m looking for? I did all the steps for TEST MODE and nothing really stood out as a code? In step 4 it says that 04 ntc test will pop up but it’ll show 04 then “21” then in step 5 it’ll operate but when that happens it shuts off after a few seconds

I just double checked right now I took the unit out of the machine and tested both the thermostats on it for continuity and checked the coils as well.

I also just checked thermostat 1 which was 00.1-00.2 and the door switch, the belt cut off switch and the thermistor which was 52.0. The Manual shows a thermal fuse but I couldn’t locate that to test it.

Have you verified that the power supply to the dryer is good?

That's a good reading. My guess would be that one of the control boards is failing. I don't have any other ideas for you to check at this time. If you find the solution, let me know what it is.

Is there a way I can test the control board?

  11. #11
Doesn’t look like there’s anyway to test the motherboard or control board.. what do you suggest I do? Have someone come check it out ? Or buy those parts and see if that does the trick? They don’t seem too expensive but at the same time I don’t wanna just throw money at it .

It's really up to you. You could compare the cost of the hiring a repair person versus the cost of the part and see if it is worth the gamble.

Okay I replaced the motherboard and it did nothing. I also replaced the thermistor and that seemed to fix the problem with it shutting off while in any heat mode but there’s still no heat?

  16. #16
I ran it with the back plate off and the heating assembly doesn’t seem to be producing any heat at all.

What are the fuses? I tested the thermostats on the heater assemble and they both had continuity I tested the heater terminals and they had continuity I took the assembly out and couldn’t see any breaks in the coils. The manual shows a temp fuse, temp sensor and temp switch but I can’t locate the temp fuse on it?

  19. #19
Ok so now idk what happened but I tried it again and now it’s getting heat but I’m looking at the heater assembly and I see red coils but then I also see some that aren’t red. Is that normal or should they all be red?

Okay and now it stopped heating again
