Maytag Loud Grinding Siren noise at mode switch

    Model Number: MVWP576KW1
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: 1-5 years

I'm new here and I don't have much experience with appliance repair. I searched the forum and watched the pinned videos and plenty of others on youtube but couldn't find this issue. 2021 top load maytag washer.

makes a really loud grinding / siren noise when it switches from soak/wash mode into rinse mode and then again after it switches from rinse into final spin mode.

I'm guessing it's either related to the shift actuator or the splutch drive kit but those are wild guesses. I have not run it with the top open since it locks so I haven't taken note of whether or not the agitator is moving.

Here's a video that shows it once at 3 seconds and again at 1:07 seconds.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

That's quite the noise that it is making! It sounds me to like something is stripped. Try inspecting the Splutch pulleys on the bottom of the washer to see if any of the gears are center splines are stripped. Let me know what you find.

Your explanation makes sense but I didn't really find any evidence of any of the gears being stripped, see the video I took:

But of course this is the 1st splutch cam kit I've ever looked at. Do any other ideas come to mind?

Thank you for video. That looks good to me. Next, try removing the agitator and check to see if the splines on the bottom of the agitator or the spline on the gearcase shaft that go in to the agitator are stripped.

Thanks. I took the agitator off and it all looks very normal. But I took "Basket Driven Hub Kit" off and it was almost completely stripped. This is the part:
