GE top load wsher tub nut will not loosen....

    Model Number: WPRE8150K1WT
    Brand: GE
    Age: More than 10 years

I qm trying to replace the tub seal. the machine was leaking only when agitating. My research led me to believe that the tub seal needed to be replaced.

Following several online tutorials, I tore the machine down to get at the tub seal. I got stuck when I got here:

The white gear on top, the coupling pulsator as GE calls it, WH43X10037 or drive block as a couple of parts houses have called it, will not move. My tutorials all used the same term to remove it: "Lift off" they said. It will not lift off. It will not screw off. It will not pull off.

An online expert suggested that I remove the tub nut so that I could "get some leverage on" the coupling pulsator. I had already bought the appropriate tools as this is part of the procedure to get to the tub seal. The tub nut will not move. I used penetrating oil and... the tub nut will not move. I soaked it in penetrating oil and let it sit overnight. The tub nut will not move. I beat on the 1 11/16" spanner with a 4 lb sledge. The tub nut will not move.

I can't get the drive block/coupling pulsator out. I cannot get the tub nut out.

Help! I've got washer parts spread out all over the kitchen and laundry room. She Who Must Be Obeyed is losing her patience.

With both of these parts, they can get stuck over time and the only way to remove them is to carefully cut them off with a dremel cut off wheel being careful to not damage the shaft of the mode shifter. Let me know what you find!

You are definitely not crazy. Those tub nuts often become corroded and seized in place.

I never could get the tub nut free or off. I used a grinder, a dremel tool with metal cutter, a dremel reciprocating tool with metal cutter. I made a mess, but no progress. Washer goes on the curb and Lowe's gets a washer sale. Thank you again for your input and support.
