Not sure how this happened but looks like the small part of the metal got exposed on the door and it's sparking if used. Can I sand the spot and use some touch up paint? Is there a way to repair this or is it trash?

I think you have to look for a special microwave oven cavity paint like the one below. I have never tried it myself, so I don't know how well it works. That piece looks like it might be corroded from the inside, so that entire piece probably need to be replaced.
