older Kenmore dryer makes loud rattling noise

    Model Number: 11077902790
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: More than 10 years

My 30+year old Kenmore dryer has begun making loud buzzing/rattling noises when it starts a drying cycle. The noise may vary in loudness during the cycle; otherwise the dryer seems to work fine. I believe the noise is caused by a loose fit between the air duct (red arrow in attached picture) and the cone (green arrow) surrounding the gas flame, which vibrates when the dryer is running. Dimples in the margin of the air duct (yellow arrows) should hold the cone tight, but they are now allowing the rattle. do you have any suggestions for stopping the noise?

Have you tried bending the metal in slightly so that they fit tighter together?
