Hi all! Thanks for your help in advance! As mentioned in the title our Samsung gas dryer (runs on 120v) is heating intermittently. It truly is driving my wife crazy lol. When I feel the vent tube with the dryer running, sometimes it is hot, sometimes it is cold, and sometimes it is just slightly warm. Generally speaking it takes quite a long time to dry a load like this. Here is what I have replaced/checked so far: New coils, new thermistor, new motor (thought maybe centrifugal switch issue and anyway the rubber "mounts" on the motor were shot) new flame sensor. Checked the two fuses. As near as I can tell these are the only things that I have NOT replaced or tested: igniter, gas valve, control board.
I would guess it's not the gas valve, because it seems from my research like the only time the actual gas valve goes bad (as opposed to the coils) is with leaking or whatever. Also that is an expensive chance to take. I guess maybe could be the igniter? But clearly the igniter is working at least some of the time. And even if it was true that the igniter was working intermittently, I would only have expected to have either "hot" or "cold" but not "warm." Is that correct? Because my understanding is that either the igniter ignites the flame or it doesn't. And then once the flame is lit, the igniter's job is done I think?
Last time I took the door of the dryer "slightly" ajar and off (but just peeking through a crack to make sure that the air getting in wouldnt affect ignition) and I saw that the flame was periodically lighting and staying lit for like several seconds, and then going off. And that kept repeating. That doesn't sound like an igniter issue, right? Because the flame was igniting. But since then I have replaced a number of parts so I don't still know if that symptom presentation is still the same I haven't checked again. And also clearly at least sometimes the flame is staying lit because sometimes the vent tube is very hot.
Please note that I have also tried running the dryer without the vent hose, and no difference. There is no venting issue or lint issue (I totally cleaned out the chassis and hose). Also it doesn't seem to matter if it is time dry or not, same issue. Also another interesting fact that may well be unrelated is that sometimes even when the clothes does get dry it will often keep running the dryer a long time after that. I checked the moisture sensors they are clean.
Thanks!!
