Test Frigidaire Defrost Heater/Thermostat

How do I test part Frigidaire defrost heater/thermostat (5304522340) with a meter to verify it is good. I went to YouTube and defrost timer checks good with meter. The new part has the thermostat and heater combined. Other brands have these as two separate parts.

The combined heater and defrost thermostat are more difficult to test. Looking at the wiring diagram for your model, I think this heater assembly also has a thermal fuse built into it at well.

According to the manufacturer these are the specs for those parts:

Defrost Thermostat: Open 50F - Closed 28.4F
Defrost Heater: 178W 79.7 Ohms
Thermal Fuse: 161.6F cut out

To test this, cool the defrost heater assembly below 28.4F. Then set your multimeter to continuity or ohms and look for an ohm reading of around 80 ohms. If you get a reading of around 80 ohms, everything is good. If you don't see any reading at all, one of the three parts is bad and the heater assembly will need to be replaced.
